TC3 Conferences & Events

TC3 regularly organises major international conferences, notably the World Conference on Computers in Education (WCCE), and the IFIP TC3 Open Conference on Computers in Education (OCCE).

These conferences serve as premier venues for sharing research, policy, case studies, and practice relating to computing in education.

Some recent examples:

  • OCCE 2025 (Open Conference on Computers in Education) will be held in Rabat, Morocco, 28-31 October 2025.
  • WCCE 2022, held in Hiroshima, Japan, offered a hybrid format and addressed themes including equity, digital access, instructional design, and policy in education.

Publications

TC3 produces a scientific journal “Education and Information Technologies”, which is published by Springer six times a year. There is a print (ISSN: 1360-2357) and an electronic (ISSN: 1573-7608) version of the journal available.

Looking Forward: 2026 Computers in Education Conference

For the 2026 conference on Computers in Education, TC3 intends to build on previous themes while also addressing emerging global priorities. Key expected focus areas include:

  • Breakthrough technologies such as AI (artificial intelligence), generative models, robotics, VR/AR (virtual/augmented reality), mobile and ubiquitous computing, data science and learning analytics.
  • Equity, inclusion, and access, ensuring that advances in educational technology do not exacerbate existing inequalities but help reduce them.
  • Teacher and educator professional development, including how to support educators in adopting, adapting to, and evaluating new technologies.
  • Policy, governance, and ethics, particularly around privacy, algorithmic bias, and the societal impact of AI and automation in educational settings.
  • Educational management, leadership, and administration in the digital era, including digital infrastructures, decision-making systems, and leveraging technology to support educational institutions.

TC3 expects the 2026 conference to be a forum for new research, innovative practices, lessons from field implementations, policy debates, and international perspectives. All levels of education (from early years through lifelong learning) are likely to be represented.

world-conference-on-computers-in-education-wcce2026-iiptsa

Established in 1957, the Institute has a long and proud history of service to, and representation of, South Africa’s ICT professionals and practitioners, attracting a broad and active membership from all levels of the ICT Industry.

In 2015, IITPSA’s Professional Member programme (denoted by the professional designation “PMIITPSA”) was accredited by IFIP’s IP3 (International Professional Practice Partnership).

IITPSA’s aims are to further the study, science and application of Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs); maintain and promote Codes of Conduct and Ethics for our members; define and promote standards of ICT knowledge; promote the formulation of effective policies on ICT and related matters; and extend the knowledge and understanding and usage of ICTs in the community. This is achieved by engagement with both Industry and Government on ICT policy, regulations and professional activities, combined with a commitment to the wider community to ensure the beneficial use of ICT.

Adherence to IITPSA’s Code of Ethics and Code of Good Practice assures others that IITPSA members are committed to ethical and professional behaviour.

Through initiatives like SA Computer Olympiad (involving 30 000+ learners annually), SA Computer Applications Olympiad (involving 13 000+ learners), and the Standard Bank Challenge for university students, IITPSA reaches out to young South Africans to raise awareness of the use and application of ICTs.

All IITPSA members are encouraged to develop themselves through participation in lifelong learning / continuing professional development.
Working together with organisations such as SAQA and IFIP’s International Professional Practice Partnership (IP3), IITPSA helps to establish and grow appropriate, relevant professional standards for the ICT profession.
